047/365 - Pacific [For July 15th, 2010]

Last work day in SF! It was so intense!

We started the day off with a prayer walk, which, honestly, scared the crap out of me! We were already hearing stories about some people getting offended and yelling at prayer walkers. I'm also not the type of person who practices street ministry like that.

We were sent out into the poorest district once again, and this time around, we made PB&J sandwiches, with a little uplifting note for the homeless. We'd then pray for them, if they wanted us to. It turned out to be an incredible, God-driven experience! There were a few who weren't interested, but overall, it was great! I could tell we lifted up the spirit of the first man we talked to, who was just about asleep until we gave him the sandwich and prayed together. Another man said he wasn't religious, so we passed on group prayer... But as we walked away, he smiled and looked like he was about to cry! Clearly, our mere acknowledgement of his existence and generosity meant a lot to him. The last man was probably the most interesting, only for the fact that he began to preach to us!! We had a good, Godly discussion with him!

Afterwards, we watched a talent show put on by those with special needs, and then another talent show put on by the children's ministry back at the church.. Loved them!! If I learned anything on this trip, it's that we're all people. Nobody is better or worse than anyone else, regardless of mental and physical health, circumstances, or our way of life. And to see and interact with all these people who tend to be forgotten, ignored, or, at worse, hated through the week... Showing them that they're cared for and loved... That's something special. =)

This evening's activity was going to Ocean Beach! It was my first time seeing the ocean!!! =D Of course, I had to dip my feet in, and came home with a bunch of sand dollars! The beach was fantastic, even if it was a cold, somewhat foggy night. Endless sand! And the waves weren't like what we get up here... Up here, the waves wash up on the beach and retreat... On Ocean Beach, the waves come in... And then come in again before retreating! Caleb and I wanted to skimboard soooo bad!! We could've boarded forever on that sandy beach...

End Day 04 in SF!
