046/365 - The Cross [For July 14th, 2010]

Today, we took kids to the zoo!!! =D Haha. It was my group's turn to work with kids, at Salvation Army Mission. If I remember  right, it's basically additional education and/or summer school for kids up to 12 or 13 years old. But the majority were in elementary school. We met a sweet grandmother and her second grade grandson. Soo cute! We talked to her a lot about where we came from, and how it compared to SF, and just ourselves in general.

Anyway, the kids were so awesome! We helped escort them on the buses to the zoo, and with lunch. Sadly, we didn't get to go into the zoo with them! =( We had to get moving to the next site, the San Francisco Food Bank.

The food bank was... Very repetitive. Not necessarily in a bad way; we still found ways to have fun! ;) We separated the good plums and nectarines from the bad ones.... Yeah. Haha. But like I said, we still managed to create some fun with it. Oh! A group next to us, also on a mission trip, were a bunch of photographers!! So I got to talk with them for a little bit! =D Discussed things, such as lomo (which I've already done here and a couple times here.) and photojournalism. Love it when that happens, where you meet random people who share the same passions! =)

I mentioned before that there's some sort of activity every night. Tonight, we went up to Mount Davidson, the highest point in SF at just over 900 feet. It's a gorgeous view from up there, for sure. You can see the skyline and all the houses staircasing their way over the hills. A little ways into the woods at the top stands this 103-foot tall cross. It's incredible! You can't help but feel God's presence up there... We had worship under the cross, singing "God of this City" and one other song. Amazing...

End Day 03 in SF!
